Went to quit my job, to move back to Austin, and my boss says he wants me to stay on, working from there. Did not expect that, but it's definitely welcome. I won't be home in time to catch the WEC race (dammit), but the girlfriend gets discounted tickets to COTA, and I'm thinking about maybe hitting up the Vintage National Championship in October. Might be a fun time to head over there with the camera. Anyone been to/know anything about Vintage Nationals? Worth going to?

Looks like the recoil is removed to use a quick-starter or to use the recoil only to start the engine and then pull off. I don't think it's electric start.

I find no fault in your reasoning.

That's a rope winding drum. I drove a lawn tractor around the farm like that, you had to wind a rope around the drum and then pull, and if it didn't start, you had to wind it again.
It was a great reason to keep the carb tuned up.

I'm not 100% on the engine - it doesn't have the square profile of a Briggs. Possibly Tecumseh or pre-Fuji Robin. There's also something quite odd going on with the carb, almost like it's been set up to function as a fuel meter to an injector instead of as a carb. If that's the case, though, it's odd that the throttle is hooked up through it, unless there's an accelerator pump they're using. There's a line to the main jet/plug in the bottom.

A number of recoils, Tecumseh among them, have an internal drum that *could* be used that way, but is set up for drive from recoil pawls on the interior. That flywheel housing looks like it has recoil holes, so it could be either one.

Where do you watch WEC races from?
